| High Tide
Flood warnings were in force along
the East Coast and the English Channel on November 2007. There were fears
of a repetition of the floods of 1953.
Low pressure and strong winds
caused an early morning (8:00 a.m.) surge along the Norfolk
coast on Friday 9 November 2007.
The prospect of flooding in Essex
was considerably less, with high tide about four hours later, just before
noon. Moreover in Essex the bitterly cold wind was blowing off shore. The
effects of the high tide can be seen in the images below.
"Sail Lofts"
"The Hard was flooded"
"Marshland was completely covered"
Marshland was completely covered all the way across
to Mersea Island.
"Environment agency"
The police and the Environment Agency were on
hand in case of a tidal surge. However the Tidal barrier was not in this
case needed. The water stopped a couple of feet below the need for it to
be used.
