60th Anniversary Celebration

   The 60th Anniversary of the foundation of the Tollesbury Branch of the British legion was celebrated in style with a parade led by the award winning Royal British Legion Brentwood Youth Band. During the proceedings there was the dedication of a new Standard and a recognition of the Services of a Loyal Member of the Legion. 
   It took place on the pleasant morning of  Sunday 20th May 2007.
   There followed a parade of County and Visiting Standards. This was in turn followed by  Participants in World War II, Ladies of the former Tollesbury Women's' Branch Current Legion Members and  Poppy Appeal Collectors

   The parade marched off from New Street at 10:30 a.m. There followed a Church service at St. Mary's After the service of one and a quarter hours the parade reassembled and marched along Elysian Gardens and the High street and the Square again where Lord Petre, Lord Lieutenant of Essex, took the salute.

   This was followed by a concert of light and entertaining music by the Youth Band in the Square until about 2:00 p.m. This was enjoyed by many spectators, not least patrons of the Kings Head public house.  
   The Celebration were later featured on ITV' Anglia evening news.
