Local Tax Increases ~ 2007/8

   The increases in local taxation for the year are as follows 
 

EssexCounty Council	4.5%
Essex Police Authority	5.0%
Essex Fire Authority	2.9%
Maldon District Council	3.5%
Tollesbury Parish Council	-2.0%
Overall Change	4.2%

   Annual inflation has for many years been consistently measured as less than 3%. 

   Over a six year period the cumulative local tax increases are listed below. 
 

EssexCounty Council	43.6%
Essex Police Authority	64.1%
Maldon District Council	79.3%
Tollesbury Parish Council	52.7%
Overall Change	46.4%

   In stark contrast to this an annual inflation rate of 3%  would result in a cumulative increase over five years of 16.0%

   The rate of inflation has been considerably less than this.
