| Not Even Green?
The Green and Blue flag, pennant, shield
and circle logos
were designed for Tollesbury Informer in
2000
to simply and specifically represent the
predominant colours of the Tollesbury Landscape
- the green of the fields and marshes and
the blue of the sea and sky;
they may also be taken to represent the
plough and sail.
Tollesbury Informer is a completely
independent website.

Since that time the colours
green and blue have also been adopted by other organisations. It is not
intended that the green and blue colours of Tollesbury Informer or the
related symbols denote approval of policies, statements or unproven pseudo-scientific
assertions.
To
clarify:
There is absolutely no approval
of so called Green Taxes, for which the theory is that people will be dissuaded
from purchasing substances and fuels, when this impinges disproportionally
on the poor, low and middle income groups.
It is not considered that there
is any proven case for stating that CO2 emissions (or any other emissions)
have any significant effect on the climate. The major factor by far in
heat retention is water vapour, and that can be ascertained simply by looking
at the clouds in the sky.
There is a strong case
for reducing to practically zero dependence on oil or coal or natural gas
since these are finite resources.
More resources should be put
into achieving nuclear fusion power. We have at present fission nuclear
power.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs
There is no approval of compulsory
phasing out of the traditional light bulb in favour of these at present
extremely more expensive bulbs.
If one of these bulbs breaks
then there may be a risk of spillage of mercury. The advice is not to vacuum
clean this spillage because of the hazardous nature of mercury vapour.
There are likely to be expensive
disposal problems offsetting any potential long term gains.
Health and Safety issues should
dictate that these bulbs should be accompanied information on hazards and
disposal.
The use of (so called) energy
saving light bulbs should be a matter of consumer preference, not legislation.

E.ON Electrisave
The energy supplier E.On is
currently offering for sale Electrisave - a meter which "allows for the
consumer to see how much electricity is being used in "real time"
– helping you to cut back on the energy you use and save money on your
electricity bills". The same device can be purchased as the Owl Wireless
Energy Monitor.
It does NOT tell you how much
electricity you have used, or the cost of that electricity. It simply tells
you the rate at which you are using electricity. In simple terms it is
akin to a speedometer for a car, without the milometer, whereas most people
really want easily accessible information more akin to that of the milometer
or (usually less precisely) a fuel gauge.
The problem with meters is
that in frequently they are located in difficult to reach places. This
may be due to the need to locate meters close to the entry point of the
meter to the house.
It is possible to rig up a spy camera
(and light source) to gain a more accessible reading.
Electrisave does provide accessibility,
but NOT a remote reading of the meter (or the billing cost of electricity
used).
The notion that this may save
your use of electricity is based solely on the notion that Electrisave
will give an incentive to switch off appliances which are not needed.

Local Developments
Local development along the
Chelmer Valley corridor and the A414 corridor are opposed. Large Scale
Development on green field sites is opposed. Any merger of the local councils
of Maldon and Chelmsford is opposed.

Tollesbury and the Environment
Tollesbury and its surroundings
have long been at the forefront of environmental concerns, with RSPB, Essex
Wildlife Trust and other organisations in the locality.
True environmental considerations
may be of considerable benefit. Hyped up or false and disingenuous concerns
are not.
